SITUATION
The threat of borreliosis (Lyme disease) is on the rise, fueled by the increasing prevalence of ticks and the earlier arrival of warmer weather each year1. Lyme disease presents a significant health concern as these vectors become more abundant and active. Early symptoms can include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans.
The regions of most intense transmission of B. burgdorferi s. l. are in the northeastern United States and in central Europe, where the prevalence of B. burgdorferi s.l. infection among ticks can be as high as 40–50%.2
GENEPROOF RESPONSE
Currently there is no clinical vaccination available for borreliosis, therefore proactive detection and prevention strategies are imperative. The GeneProof Borrelia PCR diagnostic kit offers a reliable and efficient method for the detection of 15 genospecies of the B. burgdorferi sensu lato complex, including B. burgdorferi sensu stricto, as well as B. miyamotoi both in ticks and individuals at risk. By accurately identifying the presence of the bacteria, early diagnosis and prompt treatment can be initiated, lessening the risk of Lyme disease development.
